Born and raised in Poland, during the times my mother was either working long hours or had to leave the country in order to provide for the household, I lived with my grandparents. Throughout those years, it was a learning experience having two elderly at home who, though were taking care of me and my brother, also needed much help with personal care and assistance. Therefore, my caregiving experience began with those who were the closest to me.

Life in America has changed my aspirations of who I wanted to become as a young adult. My ultimate goal was to become a nurse and work in a hospital setting. As I began following this dream, early on I started taking nursing internships and completing sports medicine classes. I attended college and my first experience was private in-home care for disabled while simultaneously working for an upscale assisted living facility in memory care unit with Dementia and Alzheimer’s residents. As I continued my education, I then worked for a national franchise home care company.

I decided to complete medical assisting course from which I graduated with honors and valedictorian award in addition to becoming Clinically Certified in Medical Assisting. I completed an internship at an ENT office after which I began working for an urgent care owned by a major hospital.

Though I love the medical and clinical aspects of care for patients, my passion resonated with those who needed the physical, mental and emotional help once they returned home from their medical appointments. That is when I knew my heart belonged in caregiving.

I am currently a member of American Caregiver Association and have completed National Caregiver Certification, Advanced National Caregiver Certification, and National Assisted Living Manager Certification.

WellReside Living is a means by which I can share my passion for improving lives of elderly and disabled as well as their families. Being able to provide high quality and excellence when taking care of families in their residence gives me great satisfaction.

Whenever I am away from improving caregiving methods, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking traditional Polish dishes with my mom, visiting antique shops and writing letters and postcards to my teachers from Poland and friends who inspire me in day to day life.

"I had the privilege of working with Eunika closely for about eight months. In that short amount of time I quickly learned just how much her personal attributes carry over into her professional life and how rare that is to see especially in today’s world. I could always count on her to get the job done and serve as a leader to her peers.

Many times we worked under difficult pressures that would challenge our morals and integrity but she was always one to stand her ground and on the side of what is right and what is true even when it would sometimes be “easier” to give in to what was easy. I was also able to grow a personal relationship with Eunika and to this day consider her one of my dearest friends. She has been a constant shoulder for me to lean on and a constant reminder that there are still good people out there. Her energy is vibrant and contagious and can make any ill person forget about their sorrows or pain even if just for a second. In an industry that places so much emphasis on the bottom dollar I have no doubt Eunika’s focus will remain on the overall wellbeing of her clients."

HUMAN CONNECTION

A Genuine Smile

Researchers at Harvard University studied a group of elderly patients and their responses to the facial expressions of health-care providers. When the caregivers’ facial expressions “were perceived as more warm, caring, concerned, and empathetic,” said the researchers, the patients felt more satisfied and their physical and mental well-being improved. The opposite was the case when the caregivers’ nonverbal communications distanced them from patients.

PRECISION + CARE

Older People Deserve Respect

A six-month study showed that baby talk is frequently used in nursing homes. Yet talking to older people in such a way not only robs them of their dignity but is also bad for their well-being, reports the German health newsletter Apotheken Umschau. Such lack of respect reportedly has a negative effect on health. Says Christine Sowinski of the German Association of Elderly Care: “The less older people are respected, the earlier they decay physically and mentally.” She recommends that derogatory and childish terms be eliminated from nursing routines, “since the underlying attitude will change with the language.” recognize the need to preserve patients’ dignity and treat them with respect during all phases of care.
